Bharat Taxi Expands Services to Five Major Cities in Uttar Pradesh
Bharat Taxi has officially rolled out its services in five key cities of Uttar Pradesh—Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Kanpur, and Prayagraj. Built on a cooperative model with the guiding principle “Driver is the Owner,” the initiative empowers drivers to become stakeholders in the mobility sector.
Union Minister of State for Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol, speaking at the launch event in Lucknow, emphasized that Bharat Taxi represents the expansion of the cooperative movement into new areas such as urban transport. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also unveiled several cooperative initiatives during the programme, including the Mukhyamantri Krishak Samriddhi Yojana portal, the Urvarak Setu mobile app, and the UPCDC mobile app. In addition, Bharat Taxi signed MoUs with the Airport Authority, Lucknow Metro Rail, and Lucknow Police.
According to the Ministry of Cooperation, Bharat Taxi has already attracted over 10 lakh Saarthis (driver‑partners) since its inception in February 2026, with nearly 20,000 rides completed daily. More than 40 lakh passengers have used the service, and Saarthis have collectively earned over ₹100 crore in just six months. With the latest expansion, around 40,000 Saarthis are expected to begin operations across the five newly added cities.
Mohol highlighted that Bharat Taxi’s cooperative structure sets it apart from conventional aggregator models, as drivers directly benefit from ownership and decision‑making. He noted that earnings are credited straight into Saarthis’ accounts, ensuring transparency and fairness.
The minister also underlined the broader growth of India’s cooperative sector, which now includes over 8.5 lakh societies and 32 crore members across 30 industries. Ongoing efforts include computerisation of nearly 80,000 Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) nationwide, with Uttar Pradesh alone digitising 6,300 PACS in phases. More than 54 lakh new members, including 17.5 lakh farmers, have joined under the state’s M‑PACS campaign.
Mohol concluded that the expansion of Bharat Taxi demonstrates how cooperatives can successfully enter emerging sectors like mobility, contributing to the vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
